pyroclastic surge deposit

pyroclastic surge deposit
GLOSSARY OF VOLCANIC TERMS
Pyroclastic deposits that are left by pyroclastic surges. These deposits mantle topographic features but also generally thicken within topographic depressions. These deposits are generally well-sorted, and are enriched in crystals and lithic fragments relatively to pyroclastic flow deposits. Surge deposits commonly exhibit unidirectional sedimentary bedforms, including low angle cross-bedding, dune forms, climbing dune forms, pinch and swell structures, and chute and pool structures (Cas and Wright, 1987, p. 98).
